Directors

Affinity Capital Group was founded by Adam Santa Maria who leads the group with Demetrios Pynes and Simon Tan. Together they have more than six decades of experience in strategic advice, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions and completed billions of dollars worth of transactions.

Adam and Demetrios have decades of practical experience as company directors for public and private companies. Together they have served on over 20 boards and both are Graduates of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Adam Santa Maria

Managing Director

Founder of Affinity Capital Group and one of Perth’s senior corporate finance advisors, Adam brings deep experience in investment banking, deal execution and entrepreneurial innovation.

Adam has managed the public listings of more than 25 companies on the Australian Securities Exchange and has advised on, or raised capital for, over $100 billion in announced transactions. He specialises in deal execution, structuring, capital raising, and management support across a range of industries.

He has an extensive background in M&A and strategic advice, having gained direct executive experience in a multitude of private and listed companies, including as CEO, Chair, General Counsel, Company Secretary and as a Board director. He is also responsible for the execution of Affinity’s private equity strategy and the coordination and integration of the firm’s broader activities. Prior to Affinity, Adam was the co-founder of a successful investment bank focused on the natural resources sector and emerging high potential businesses.

Adam’s corporate finance and investment banking career spans across two decades, dedicated to ensuring promising companies, founders and executives receive the support and capital they require to achieve their objectives.

Adam is a 2021 WA Business News 40 Under 40 winner and holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia. Adam also has a Master of Applied Finance (Kaplan) and is a candidate for Executive MBA at Oxford University.

Adam also completed the Emerging Leaders Program at Harvard University and was a co-founder and director of Stanford University’s Spark Co-Lab Australian accelerator. In addition to his role at Affinity, he sits on a number of industry advisory and government boards and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Adam, in addition to being group Managing Director, acts as Affinity’s General Counsel. Adam was previously a lawyer in a tier one global law firm and is an experienced general counsel with 15 years’ in-house experience in financial institutions and public companies, having advised on some of the world’s most significant transactions working alongside some of Australia’s largest and most successful companies. He is a practicing solicitor and Justice of the Peace, admitted to the Supreme Courts of Western Australia, Victoria and the High Court of Australia.

Demetrios Pynes

Executive Director

Over the last 25 years, Demetrios has had a diversified career, initially commencing in analytical and advisory roles, where he provided strategic and investment advice to high net worth individuals, corporations and charities.

Demetrios has a wide range of experience in navigating special situations including corporate restructuring, asset divestments, M&A and other catalyst orientated circumstances.

He was the founder of an industrial company and led it to listing on the ASX by way of a reverse merger in 2015, holding the Managing Director role of the public company for seven years where it grew to be the largest independent company in its sector. During this period, Demetrios was responsible for the acquisition and integration of over 50 private companies into the group, which has given him deep expertise in this process. Combining technical experience along with the journey of a founder, Demetrios has built solid commercial acumen and the invaluable network of corporate and financial contacts that are so essential to creating successful outcomes.

Demetrios holds a Bachelor of Commerce Majoring in Finance and Banking along with post graduate qualifications in Applied Finance and Investment (Portfolio Management). Demetrios is a Fellow of FINSIA, has held Responsible Manager roles as an AFSL holder and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.

Simon Tan

Director

Simon has over 20 years of investment banking experience in the transport, infrastructure, and utilities sectors with Rothschild in London and Royal Bank of Canada in Sydney and has held other senior positions in advisory firms and government. He provides strategic, M&A, policy, and financing advice to government, corporate and infrastructure fund clients.

Simon has completed over $24 billion of transactions including the Australian Financial Review’s CFO Awards M&A Deal of the Year in 2010 and has been mandated by over 45 infrastructure investors and corporates.

Simon has also been a retained strategic advisor to listed corporates and investors and has undertaken numerous strategic reviews of industries, companies and assets.

Simon has also advised 16 government departments/ agencies on strategic, commercial and infrastructure issues. He has reviewed over $100 billion of infrastructure initiatives and developments ranging from the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit at Number 10 to GTEs, departments, agencies and councils. He has completed five privatisations raising $2 billion for government initiatives.

Simon holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia, a Master of Electronic Commerce degree from Murdoch University and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment (FINSIA).

Simon received the Western Australian of the Year Award in 1995 in the youth category.
